| ROCKY WARNER WINS 1st CAREER MODIFIED FEATURE EVENT! Friday May 17th 2013 On May 9th 2004 when the powers that be decided to take a chance and run a street stock division race at the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, Rocky Warner was declared the 1st ever winner at the track in something other than a go-kart. Fast forward 9 years, and after 12 street stock wins, 7 pro-stock wins, 2 rookie sportsman and 8 602 sportsman wins, along with a street stock, a pro-stock and sportsman championship, Warner has now etched his name in stone with a win in the track’s modified divison. Other winners on the night were Korey Wilder in the sportsman, Rob VanAernam street stocks, Shane Playford lightning cruisers, Cody Clark rookie sportsman, Billy Jaycox and Doug Norrie in 305 Racesaver Sprints and Mini Sprints. Zach Graham and Rocky Warner brought the stout modified field to Joe Achzet’s green flag, with Warner finally clearing the pass for the lead as the cars crossed the line side by side on lap one. Warner had an open track to play with leaving the race for second on back a great one. Elmo Reckner would get his high flyin #17 by Graham for second on lap 13 and was peddling his way up to Warner. All eyes were on Bobby Varin, as he was trying to accomplish a feat at Glen Ridge that no other modified driver has been able to do, and that’s win three features in a row. Varin started 6th in the field and was locked in a battle with opening night winner Craig Hanson, Graham and Richie Price. Varin would make a strong and much needed move to the top of the speedway to take over 3rd place. Just like Reckner, Varin was also closing in on the front of the field, but Rocky Warner would not be denied, running a clean smotth green to checkers feature to capture his first career modified feature win! Reckner would have to settl e for yet another second place finish, Varin would have to bow to the three-peat curse and cross the line third, with Graham and Hanson rounding out the top 5. The theme of the 2013 sportsman season so far has been back to back wins and birthday celebrations. Korey Wilder picked up the win last week on his mother’s birthday and like the idea so much he decided to go back to back and pick up a win on his very own birthday Friday night. The race did not get underway easy by any means as multiple wrecks on the start led to the ending to contenders John Marsh Jr and Ray Zemken. Laudy Hoyenga held the point until Wilder stuck his nose to the bottom on lap number eight to take the lead. The green machines of Greg & Brian Pessolano made their way past Hoyenga setting their sights on the front running Wilder. Greg Pessolano did everything he could do in his bag of tricks to get by Wilder, but it was like dejavous all over again as Wilder picked up the win followed by the Pessolanos, Rick Lamont and Steven Denton. Rob VanAernam stayed perfect on the season capturing his 4th checkered flag of the season by getting by Jason Samrov for the lead on the final lap, while running side by side for half the race for the lead. Samrov was second, with Duke McSpirit third. Shane Playford finally got the monkey off his back in the lightning cruiser division by holding off Ben Riggi for his 1st win of the young season. Riggi, Keith Tesiero Jr and Tesiero Sr rounded out the field. A wild rookie sportsman race saw Cody Clark pick up his first career feature win at Glen Ridge by dominating the field and winning by a half track over last week’s winner AJ Prime, Bill Fox, Steven Kline and Blake Schwarting. Billy Jaycox took advantage of the misfortunes of race favorite Danny Varin to pick up the Racesaver 305 sprint car feature over Josh Pieniazek, Warren Alexson and Varin. Doug Norrie ran down the high flyin’ Don Harvey late in the race to pick up the ultra fast mini sprint feature event win with Justin Phillips, Jamie Kiser, Joe Szczapa rounding out the top 5.
